Lambda Players’ Presents “The Nun Crashers”

Lambda Players have canceled their planned production of “Nuncrackers: A Christmas Musical” scheduled to open Nov. 20 in their new theatre at 21st & L Sts. in Sacramento.

“Pianists are in high demand this time of year and get a lot of paying gigs,” says Artistic Director Tom Swanner. “We’ve had several pianists have to leave because they got paying gigs, and unfortunately there’s no pre-recorded music for this show.”

After another pianist and several cast members bowed out of the production just 10 days before opening, the production was canceled, leaving the company scrambling to fill the holiday time slot in the new theatre. But what can you do with a bunch of nun outfits and half a cast?

Director David-Matthew Barnes knew what to do. The Elly-Award winning playwright stayed up over night to pen his own nun-related Christmas comedy—and a funnier one, too. “The Nun Crashers” will open Nov. 20 and run through Dec. 16.

The 10-day rehearsal period doesn’t scare this cast. “If Saturday Night Live can do it, we can, too,” says Swanner. “And ours will be funny.”

After “The Nun Crashers” comes “The Kathy & Mo Show” followed by “The Children’s Hour”. Run dates to be announced. lambdaplayers.com
