The US Census Bureau will cohost a convening of the Sacramento LGBT Complete Count Committee at 6pm, Thurs., Nov. 19 at CARES, 1500 21st St., Sacramento in the second floor meeting room.
The Census Bureau has partnered with Equality California, Sacramento Valley LGBT Leadership Coalition, PFLAG, the Rainbow Chamber of Commerce Sacramento, CARES and the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center for this event.
The committee will be empowered to help reach every member of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities with this message: The 2010 Census is easy, it’s safe and it’s important.. Participants will include leaders of Sacramento and the central valley including community-based, faith-based and business organizations that serve the LGBT residents of this region.
Speakers will include Gary Gates, Distinguished Scholar with the Williams Institute at UCLA and a leading expert on LGBT demographics and Lynn Sorgenfrei, Assistant Regional Census Manager from the Seattle Regional Census Office.
In response to the changes in our society, the Census Bureau has expanded its outreach to include the LGBT communities for the 2010 Census. This convening will be the genesis of a Complete Count Committee that will help inform and motivate the LGBT community to participate fully in the 2010 Census.
